Jordan Junior Wrestling Defeats
the Champions Tournament
(Sandy, Utah) Nov.
23, 2007 Fourteen members of Jordan Junior Wrestling traveled to
Springville to
compete in the Champions folkstyle wrestling
tournament.
Of those 14, nine placed, including four champions.
This was a great opening tournament for the wrestlers, said Coach Bill Kilpack
(III). With some strange scheduling requirements this year, we had
only held three practices before going. So we expected the
kids to be rusty. But they really stepped up and made even
that much hard work and dedication pay off.
Winning championships were four
athletes: two on the elementary team, and two on the junior
high/middle school team. The two elementary team champions
included 7-year-old Spencer Maxwell Sandy,
who wrestled in the Intermediate 51-pound Bantam (ages 7 and 8) bracket;
and 9-year-old Siondileigh Kilpack of Sandy, in the Beginner
5255-pound Midget (ages 9 and 10) division. In the Middle School
division, 10-year-old Tayler Johnson of Draper won gold in the Advanced
Novice (ages 11 and 12) 7579-pound bracket,
and Alex Maxwell of Sandy took first in the Beginner 5866-pound
bracket.
Taking second was 9-year-old Spencer
Westover of Sandy, in the Beginner Midget 5964-pound bracket, in his
first tournament ever.
Placing third was Zayne Sayers of Sandy,
in the Advanced Junior High 149166-pound bcracket.
Placing fourth were three wrestlers:
Garrick Kilpack of
Sandy in the Advanced Bantam 4445-pound bracket; Devin Johnson of
Draper in the Advanced Midget 5558-pound bracket; and Jordan
Breashears of Kearns, in the Advanced Junior High 159160-pound
bracket.
Also competing were Bronson Battaglia of Sandy, in the Novice
Intermediate 7982-pound bracket; MacKelti Kilpack of Sandy, in the
Intermediate Novice 8387-pound bracket; Kevin Maxwell of Sandy, in
the Intermediate Junior High 8285-poiund bracket; and Tyler
Schwendiman of South Jordan, in the Advanced Novice 6569-pound
