Sandy Teen Shines in Reno
William Kilpack of
Sandy-based Mountain Top Wrestling Club earned the outstanding
wrestler award — the first Utahn to do so — in the Reno World
Championships folkstyle wrestling tournament held recently at Reno.
Kilpack, 13, of Sandy,
was Utah's lone individual winner in the tournament, the largest
folkstyle event in the country, which drew more than 150 Utah
wrestlers and almost 3,000 competitors from more than 30 states in
all.
Kilpack, who won his
championship match by a 9-6 score, was named the outstanding
wrestler in the 12-and-under division after posting four pins,
including three of them in 49 seconds or less, and shutting out all
four of his opponents — from Nebraska, Nevada, California and New
Jersey — leading up to the finals.
Eight other Utah

including Jaxon Cole of Coalville-based North Summit at 8-and-under
49 lbs.; Cole Moody of Murray-based Pride Wrestling, 8-and-under 58
